The insight that Internal Family Systems (IFS) offers, is that this inner struggle is a reflection of the activities of parts within ourselves. There are parts burdened with past pain that they still carry with them. In addition, there are parts that take on a protective role. They want to prevent us from experiencing the loneliness and sadness of our stressed parts experience anew. And no matter how extreme they may behave, all our parts – yes, truly all of them – have the goal of keeping us safe. If we start listening to them and welcoming them, inner cooperation and compassion can arise.
With ‘All Parts Welcome,’ Richard Schwartz introduces a new framework for understanding and accepting ourselves—a method that gives us inner harmony, supports self-compassion, and opens the doors to spiritual connection with ourselves, our fellow human beings, and the planet. The exercises offered can be the beginning of getting to know your parts, listening to what they have to say, and connecting with your Self, your core where you experience peace and trust.
Richard C. Schwartz, PhD, is the creator of Internal Family Systems (IFS), a highly effective, evidence-based therapeutic model that depathologizes the multi-part personality. Through the IFS Institute, which he founded, trainings are offered for therapists as well as other interested individuals. He is affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and has published five books and over fifty articles on IFS.
