One in ten people hear voices. In this documentary, which won the IDFA Award for Best Dutch Film 2025, let's meet five people who hear voices. One of those people has one voice, another nineteen. One voice wants to protect, the other to harm. The documentary can be seen on Sunday, September 13 at 22:40 on NPO 2, NPO Start and npodoc.nl.

The main characters find themselves in a therapeutic setting, where a psychiatrist – out of view for us – leads a conversation about, but also with, their voices. Who are they? Why are they so hostile? What do they actually want? This revolutionary different approach, which is based on Voice Dialogue opens doors for patients to gain more insight and acceptance into what is happening in their minds. Not that the voices reveal themselves just like that, because there is something at stake.

Appears in various sessions trauma on the surface that is directly connected to the emergence of the voices. Yet unravelling a hidden past is not where Mijn woord tegen het mijne places its focus. The film primarily paints a fascinating group portrait—of the protagonists and their voices—that reflects the wondrous world of the human mind.
