IFS views psychological multiplicity as a normal phenomenon: each of us has parts. Some of those parts are traumatized and others have a protective function, but all of them have the best interest of the client in mind and are of great value to the inner system as a whole. Traumatized parts can be healed by bringing all the parts into contact with each other and with the ‘Self’ – the core – of the client.
IFS therapy has proven to be an effective treatment for a wide range of mental health problems, including: trauma, dissociation, Depression, anxiety, PTSD and addiction. The therapy offers a non-pathologizing approach based on neuroscientific principles, drawing on inner resources and self-compassion to reach the core of emotional wounds and heal them.
This book explains how clients can learn to know their ‘Self’ and how they can begin to distinguish their personality and their symptoms from one another. Gradually, the painful and limiting consequences of traumatic events in the past are removed.
With step-by-step techniques, annotated case studies, exercises and meditations, neuroscientific background information and downloadable worksheets.
