50 exercises to get to know your nervous system better and make friends with it.

When we autonomic nervous system– including the vagus nerve – is regulated, we feel safe and connected to ourselves and the people around us. We look at life with confidence and respond flexibly to daily challenges. Yet it happens to all of us that we end up in a survival state, and sometimes we may even live in such a state of self-protection for extended periods of time.

At that moment, our nervous system signals danger while we are not actually in danger. We become scared or angry, or we feel depressed and shut down. Our nervous system is then simply trying to protect us. As we begin to recognize and understand the reactions of our nervous system and learn to work together with it, we will increasingly find it easier to return to our regulated and connected state.

With this workbook you will discover how your nervous system works and how to befriend it. The exercises are based on polyvagal theory and help regulate the vagus nerve. You will learn the influence your nervous system has on how you feel, how you perceive the world around you, and how you relate to others. Instead of being at the mercy of feelings of angst, sadness, insecurity or overwhelming, you learn step by step to find your way back to regulation. You will begin to experience more and more moments of peace, connection, and joy.
